Third birthday's are for...
Wearing princess crowns and people still thinking it’s cute instead of obnoxious,
Smearing frosting all over your face without worrying you will break out,
Pouting when you aren’t allowed to eat candy while shopping for goody bag material,
Wearing tutu’s half your size and not making it onto a fashion faux pas list,
And watching your little brother mac on your friends...

I was feeling down today
so I did what any self respecting suburbanite would do. I left work and drove around taking pictures of whatever pretty trees there were left….
and then I drove straight to Olive Garden for some unlimited breadsticks, soup, and salad. Nothing like fresh out of the oven garlic buttery breadsticks to jump start you out of a weather related funk!
A Bunch of Fall Firsts
It was the first Friday night that Jay and I have spent in Hartford since moving out of NYC in April.
It was the first time we’ve had “sleepover guests” in our apartment
It was the first time we have tried Besito voted #1 Mexican in the tri-state area (they made a mean mango margarita!)
It was the first time I appreciated autumn in New England, it was absolutely beautiful

Birthday Party Central
This weekend was a big weekend, it was Jay’s birthday. Now I might not be someone who does all things “big”, I don’t decorate the house for impending holidays, baking holiday cookies are a chore not a pleasure, and writing Christmas cards are just something else on my “to-do” list, but birthdays, birthdays are special!
On Friday, to kick off...

RL Stine's ‘Goosebumps’ Coming to Big Screen | THR →
Screenwriter Carl Ellsworth is carving a niche for himself writing movies about kids in jeopardy. The “Red Dawn” and “Disturbia” co-writer has come aboard to write the screenplay for a live-action feature adaptation of the R.L. Stine book series “Goosebumps” for Columbia. Neal Moritz is producing through his Original Film banner with Deborah Forte of Scholastic Entertainment.

My First Russian Banya
This past weekend I was offered an opportunity to spend a day in a traditional Russian bath house better known as a Banya. Originally I was a little hesitant after researching typical banya practices and coming across multiple images like this one, where a person is essentially smacking a naked person with leaves (venik) in a very warm sauna.
Nonetheless I powered forward and decided to embrace...

We’re on a seriously tight budget these days but can’t resist the urge to eat out every now and then. I’m always on the hunt for great coupons to local dining and have found some excellent discounts from sites like Groupon and Living Social.
But I had to share this little tidbit I discovered today. It’s pretty time sensitive - so don’t wait as it might not even last 24 hrs.

What is it about 20-somethings? →
The 20s are a black box, and there is a lot of churning in there. One-third of people in their 20s move to a new residence every year. Forty percent move back home with their parents at least once. They go through an average of seven jobs in their 20s, more job changes than in any other stretch. Two-thirds spend at least some time living with a romantic partner without being married. And...

I'm a Little Late to the Party
but today after watching hours of Cake Boss reruns, I finally learned the proper way to eat a cupcake.
Step 1: Get cupcake
Step 2: Peel off wrapper and evenly break bottom of cupcake off and layer on top of frosting
Step 3: Gently smush together creating a cupcake sandwich
So simple, so innovative, so delicious!

Adventures in Babysitting
This weekend Jay and I got a sneak peak into what it would be like to be parents to two children under 3. Being that I am a very hands on aunt, I thought babysitting for a weekend sans grandparents, parents, and the nanny would be a breeze, I was very wrong.
Initially our weekend started out very under control. We were in charge and the kids were our loyal subjects as documented below:
As the...

This morning Kim messaged me some pictures of the Cathay Pacific airlines plane (sister of British airways) she was boarding en route to the Philipines. Being that I have a huge fear of flying, I never expected to actually want to get on a plane until I saw these photographs.

Impromptu Date Night
Last night after being handed tickets to the Kings of Leon concert in Hartford c/o Jay’s boss, Jay and I decided to seize the day and take advantage of our good fortune. I’m not going to lie the two of us really had no idea about KOL’s music besides from the one song that comes on the radio, but nonetheless we decided to check them out. As an added perk this was Jay’s first...
Bug Bite Relief / No Scratching Please!
ramshackleglam:
Woke up this morning to the charming discovery that I spent the night cuddled up with a mosquito. Fortunately, I remembered this little tip for instant itch relief: just dissolve a couple of Alka-Seltzer tablets in some water and apply the mixture to the bite. Alka-Seltzer is presently fizzing away in a glass on our kitchen table while I smack at my ankles (no scratching!) in...

Weekend In Review
Friday kicked off with a birthday celebration for my momma at Alta. Being that I had dined here for a previous birthday party I knew it would be a perfect place to introduce my parents to “tapas” as they are a little late to the game. As most yelpers stated the service was a bit shotty, but the food really makes up for it. Between the nine of us I think we tasted close to everything...

“The latest unemployment numbers for New York City show that, while the labor market shrunk in June, the overall unemployment rate improved, partially fueled by growth in the restaurant and bar industry. And one of the main drivers of that growth? Little morsels of impossibly cute frosted sweetness.”

The Time When Everyone I Knew Lied to Me
This weekend Emma and Jay, with the help of my family and friends threw me an absolutely amazing early surprise 25th birthday party (My birthday isn’t actually until July 5th). Knowing how sneaky I am Emma and Jay went as far as making fake email accounts so that I had no way of finding out their devious little plan in addition to continuously throwing me off their scent when I almost found...

Brian: yeah, shes right
Me: clearly, but I was still impressed by my jedi mind trick skills
Restaurant Review: Pizza Edition
This past weekend Jay and I spent time in the city in a neighborhood we had never really visited when we lived there, the financial district. Most famously known as a place for buzzing businesses by day and a quiet haven by night, I wasn’t expecting much as far as nightlife was concerned, but actually have a new outlook on it after spending a night there.
After checking into the hotel, we...
