As you probably have noticed, I have been on an unintentional hiatus from blogging lately. I would love to say that it is because I have been away this past month having far too many adventures and not enough time to blog but that would be a huge lie. A more accurate description would be that I took on the life of a bear and decided all this snow just called for one thing and one thing only, hibernation. But like all good things, hibernation must come to an end too and what better time to end than when the groundhog proclaiming spring was not too far away.
To kick off my official comeback I thought why not start with a little new year’s resolution I had made? Attempt to watch less television and instead read more. Similar to food, my eyes are always bigger than my stomach, or in this case bigger than my attention span. I have lists and lists of books I would like to read and these past few months I struggle to get through one every few months and end up racking some hefty library fines.
So to kick my resolution into high gear, the first book I picked up was “ I Do, Now What?: Secrets, Stories, and Advice from a Madly-in-Love Couple” by Giuliana and Bill Rancic. Now I know some of my readers must be thinking one of two things: 1) she’s not married why is she reading a self-help book on marriage and 2) If you were to read a self-help relationship book why pick one penned by two reality stars?
The answers are simple. I don’t think you need to be married to read books on how to better your relationship and yourself, and I also can relate to Giuiliana and Bill more since I watch their uber cute reality show and feel invested in their relationship.
So far the topics I’ve really enjoyed are how they tackle cleaning chores, divvy up financial decisions, and to always have eachother’s back in front of others even when you might not agree. In fact a lot of things they talk about I can relate to, and it’s helping me see how I could change parts of my attitude to help better my relationship.
This morning to practice what I read, I messaged Jay to tell him that I appreciated that he did all the dishes from last night before going to work. I’m hoping this positive reinforcement ensures that my hands won’t be getting wrinkly from having to do dishes for a long time!
I definitely recommend this as a fun lighthearted book that just might give you a tip or two on how continue to improve your relationship.
