Adventures in Babysitting

This weekend Jay and I got a sneak peak into what it would be like to be parents to two children under 3. Being that I am a very hands on aunt, I thought babysitting for a weekend sans grandparents, parents, and the nanny would be a breeze, I was very wrong.

Initially our weekend started out very under control. We were in charge and the kids were our loyal subjects as documented below:

As the hours progressed this picture slowly changed. Between feedings, playtime, diaper changing, bath time, and finally bedtime (and when I say bedtime I mean the few hours a night my nephew decided to actually sleep) it became very clear the kids were starting to control us.

By day two we were zombies and quickly learned that the key to survival was to catch a few snoozes while the kids slept, and not to stay up until 1am catching up on Entourage (rookie mistake by us).

At the end of the weekend we were bruised and broken and literally counting down the hours until my brother and sister-in-law got home, while simultaneously trying to do whatever the kids wanted in an effort to keep them happy and sans gut wrenching tantrums. It only took 48 hours for our authoritative control to crumble into nothing. We had officially become the loyal subjects and they were clearly calling all the shots.
